About Me

HOMEPAGE | MINILOPS | HARE FEATURES | HARE PICS | LOP PICS

I was born into rabbit keeping at the end of the war, 1946.

This photo shows my Dad's friend , my Mum and me in our garden. There are English in the shed too. Also good rabbits for providing meat in days of rationing.

The rabbits moved with us when we moved house shortly after  this photo was taken. With more space more stock was kept including. a monkey show mice, guinea pigs, lizards and about 1500 tropical fish.
My father retained his interest in showing rabbits and although we never had a car we showed rabbits all over the country due to the excellent service on the railways, and a kind neighbour. I also had an interest in them but didn't have my own stock until I was about 9 or 10 years old. I then got a present, for my birthday, of a trio of Black and Tans bought from Sam Arnold who was credited with making a big improvement in the breed and having the best stock in the 1950's. I went on to have many successes with the Tans.

On the right is a photo of one of Dad's Hares in the early 1960's.

I got married in 1965 and left all the stock behind as I married a cricketer. I went to cricket matches then instead of rabbit shows. We had 2 boys and time past. The kids grew up and someone got too old for Cricket and so the rabbits came back. First was a Belgian Hare. A doe, who was the sister to the buck Reg Sinden got Best Hare with at Bradford Championship show. Unfortunately before I could get her bred we had a visit in the night from someone with a dog and the Hare died of fright. This made us have a rethink about the best breed for us and I decided to change onto Chocolate Dutch as we realised excess stock could be found homes from the pet shop, and this didn't apply to Hares. Success also came with this stock. A new shed and it filled with Mini Lops and Chocolate Dutch.
The Hares were the last to arrive with help from one of my old mates from my teenage days Winston Laud.

From there the partnership of Harris and Hoyle has gone on to bring in an excellent doe from Peter Taylor, a St Pirian doe from John Waring, and a buck from Terry Goddard.

All these brought us the excellent stock to breed many winners.
