COLOURED HARES - THE BLACK AND TAN

Black & Tan

In the summer of 2004 a ballot was taken to decide if other colours of Hare would be accepted into the club, and they were.  It was decided to put a Standard for the Black & Tan before the British Rabbit Council to approve. By July 2005 Black & Tans became a recognised Belgian Hare.

The points are awarded just the same as for the Standard Hare. The same amount of points for colour are given, and should follow the pattern of the Black & Tan rabbit. In their Standard 65 out of 100 points are awarded for the colour. At this stage there is no break down of points for tanning in the Hare. There is some way to go to get the tanning of the quality of the Black & Tan rabbit although great improvement has been made over the last few years.
The shape and size of the Black & Tan Hare has come to match the Standard Hare. In the past they were often small and flat backed because Black & Tan rabbits were used in the breeding to improve the colour.
The White Hare is being bred in the UK but has very rarely been shown so far.
By accepting the coloured Hares into the club it was hoped that it would bring new interest and new members.
